ALERTS
All alerts are displayed on the left hand side of the screen under the clock. There are three different types of alerts displayed: Rule, REMIT, and System Alerts. These alerts have some similar characteristics:
- Each alert indicates the time it was delivered in red beneath the alert heading.
- All alert headings and delivery times are displayed in italic when unread, and once read will change to normal text. (This change is only reflected on your UI, the alerts will still appear as unread to other users.)
- Clicking on an alert heading will display the information in full. Where further information is available there is a More Information link which opens a pop out display. It is possible to both save and print a display by right clicking on the chart and selecting the relevant command from the menu.
- Alerts are colour coded, enabling the user to differentiate between messages relating to Power or those relating to Gas. Alerts displayed on a blue background indicate Power alerts, and those displayed on a white background show Gas alerts.
- All three alert menus display the last 6 hours of messages.
Rule Alerts
MV alerts the user when a ‘rule’ is satisfied by the incoming data from the BMRA or UKPX data feeds. These rules define an event, for example:
Rule: MEL = 0
The MEL of a BM Unit within a specific Portfolio goes to 0, (the system administrator can define the name of the Portfolio associated with this rule)
If this event occurs, an alert will be displayed under Rule Alerts. The rules can be modified by the system administrator or individual users so that the thresholds meet your specific requirements.
Other rules include:
Rule: Imbalance
The imbalance of a zone drops below a threshold defined by the system administrator. The system administrator can change the value of the threshold associated with this rule.
Rule: BMRA SSP/SBP Exceeds a Threshold
The SSP received from the BMRA goes below a threshold value, or the SBP received from the BMRA goes above a threshold value. There are separate BMRA SSP and SBP thresholds and these can be changed by the system administrator. NB The time shown next to the settlement period number along the x-axis of the display is the settlement period end time.
Rule: APX Exceeds a Threshold
The buy price of a half-hourly trade on the APX goes below a lower threshold and/or above an upper threshold. The upper and lower thresholds can be changed by the system administrator. This rule does not have an associated More Information display.

REMIT
The Regulation on Wholesale Energy Markets Integrity and Transparency (REMIT), is an EU regulation that came into force in December 2011, and is aimed at preventing market abuse in the wholesale energy markets. The Balancing Mechanism Reporting System (BMRS) is being used as a platform to publish the necessary information to meet the requirements of REMIT inside information reporting for the GB electricity sector. All REMIT messages passed by the BRMS are displayed in this area.
System Alerts
System Alerts are warning messages published by the System Operator to inform all involved parties of important information concerning operational and commercial issues.
Some examples of System Alerts include:
- Notification of Inadequate System Margins
- Demand Control Warnings
- IT System Outages or Failures
- Risk of System Disturbance
- Manifest Error Claims
These Alerts are published at the System Operator’s discretion.
The System Alerts are also used by the System Operator -
- To publish details of agreed Pre-Gate BMU Transactions (PGBTs). All PGBT Offers received by the System Operator (agreed and unsuccessful) will be available on its website by the end of the next working day.
- To provide notification of amended Acceptance Data relating to Emergency Instructions (Emergency Acceptance Data). Two notices will be issued in respect of each Emergency Instruction:
a) As soon as possible after an Emergency Instruction has been issued to the relevant Party, the System Warnings facility will publish details of the affected BM Unit with the relevant Settlement Day(s) and Settlement Period(s);
b) Where possible by the SAA II Run for the relevant Settlement Day(s), the System Warnings facility will publish details of the affected BM Unit, the relevant Settlement Day(s) and Settlement Period(s), plus the Emergency Acceptance Data and a statement whether it will be treated as SO-flagged or not, and a rationale for that decision. The BOAL will not appear on the Physical Data page of the BMRA or be reflected in the BMRA System Price calculations.
Other System Alerts are generated internally by the BMRA. For example, when performing a settlement run, if no Market Index Data has been received from a Market Index Data Provider effective on that day, the BMRA will generate a system message.
